In March 2021 SEL put in place a new Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) policy with a budget of £5,000 allocated to support staff fundraising efforts through match funding.  Each member of staff can ask SEL to match any money they raise for charity up to a limit of £500 per person until the budget is used up.  For the 2021/22 financial year the SEL team has chosen to work with two charities, one local to our Bristol head office and one national.

To kick off the fundraising we are running a Quiz Night on Zoom and all staff are encouraged to join us for a fun evening of quizzing and perhaps a drink or two!  Before joining the quiz everyone is asked to make a donation to one of the two charities we are supporting.  The money raised on the night will be matched by SEL and donated to One25 and Blesma.  To push up the amount raised we will also be offering teams the opportunity to ‘buy’ an answer in each round!  Prizes will also be awarded and have been donated by SEL.

Some more information about these two great charities:

One25 logo.

One25 is a Bristol women’s charity which reaches out to some of the city’s most marginalised women. We support them to move from crisis and trauma towards independence in the community. Wherever they are in their journeys, we give love and practical support, without judgement or expectation. Our vision is of a world where all women are safe, feel loved and thrive.

“I wouldn’t be where I am now if One25 hadn’t scooped me up. And I’ve never looked back.” – Cora

Last year, One25 worked with 241 women in Bristol. 154 women were supported around housing, mental health, addiction, domestic and sexual violence, finance, wellbeing and the criminal justice system. 37 stopped street sex-working and 48 women at risk were helped to avoid life on the streets.

Blesma logo.

Blesma is dedicated to assisting serving and ex-Service men and women who have suffered life-changing limb loss or the loss of use of a limb, an eye or loss of sight.  We support these men and women in their communities throughout the UK and overseas.

Blesma provides networks where members not only enjoy support from our professional Welfare Team who can offer support with grants and advice with allowance claims, but where they can engage with others who have similar injuries and backgrounds to themselves.  We work tirelessly for our members when the conflicts that have affected their lives are no longer a focal point in the nation’s media.  Since 1932 we have been the only national Service charity that supports limbless veterans for the duration of their lives.

Commenting on the upcoming Quiz Night Steve Beech, Director said:

“It is great that our CSR policy is now up and running.  We have enjoyed strong growth in our core business, and it was important that we took the time to give something back locally and nationally.  The Quiz Night is just the first step in that process and I hope we will raise a good amount of money for One25 and Blesma.  We’ll also encouraging staff to get creative with their own fundraising efforts through the year and anything they raise we will match up to a limit of £500 per person until the budget pot is empty!”
