From Birkenhead, Liverpool to Falmouth, Devon SEL staff and contractors settled in for our first online Charity Quiz Night on March 25th for SEL Charities. The evening was a huge success raising £1,330.00 to be shared between the two charities we have pledged to support this year. These are Blesma, the limbless veteran’s charity, and local Bristol women’s aid charity, One25. Staff were invited to donate to one of these charities to book a place in the quiz and questions could also be bought for £5 on the night. In total £370 was raised for Blesma and £295 for One25. This will be charity matched giving a total of £740 for Blesma and £590 for One25, and an overall figure of £1,330.00.
The Quiz was run with the help of the Blesma Corporate Partnership’s team, who kindly prepared the quiz questions and acted as Quiz Master. There were four rounds of questions played out over MS Teams and 25 staff took part, playing in teams of four or five to answer the questions. The most competitive round of questions was the Maritime and Aviation round, specially curated to suit the Royal Navy background of many of the staff. Questions ranged from the technical side: “What are the four forces that enable an aircraft to fly?”, to Royal Navy fleet knowledge: “The third HMS Ark Royal was the Royal Navy’s first flat-top aircraft carrier – True or False?” It was good to note that this was one of the highest scoring rounds for all the teams!
The winning team was “The Fortunate Guessers” led by team captain, Steve Pearson, who played alongside Cynthia Chia, Sam Dalby and Lee Hooper. Prizes for the winning team will be despatched to their home addresses and they can look forward to receiving a decent bottle of Scotch Whisky (or a cash alternative), plus an umbrella donated by Blesma. Prizes will also be sent out to the 2nd and 3rd placed teams, “Forlorn Hope” and “Sons of Safety”.
Commenting on the success of the quiz Director Steve Beech said:
“We all really enjoyed the quiz, and it was great to see so many staff and contractors all together, enjoying some fun while raising money for good causes. As a business we recognise our social responsibility and want to make a positive contribution to the community where we work. This is the start of our year of support for Blesma and One25 and I’m looking forward to seeing what people do next to continue the fundraising.”
