Safeguard Engineering is delighted to congratulate Jo Gormley on her recent appointment as Chair of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) North West England and North Wales Branch. Jo has been an active member of the Institute for around 10 years and has previously served as Vice President.

The IMarEST is the largest marine organisation of its kind, uniting marine engineers, scientists and technologists around the world in a multi-disciplinary professional body. It plays a crucial role in advancing the scientific development of marine engineering, science and technology, fostering knowledge exchange and upholding high standards across the marine profession worldwide.

Jo joined Safeguard Engineering in 2023 as a Maritime Overseer, following 16 years with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, and experience as a deputy Technical Superintendent with Defence Equipment & Support. As a passionate advocate for maritime heritage, Jo has been actively involved in projects such as the ‘Maritime Heritage – Maritime Futures’ initiative with the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society. The project engages local youth and STEM students, connecting them with Liverpool’s maritime history and the work that goes on around the port and the local marine environment, while also introducing them to the challenges of the maritime sector to meet the challenge of net zero by 2040.

Congratulations Jo! We look forward to seeing your continued success and impact in the maritime industry.
