Safeguard Engineering is excited to be growing and expanding our talented team. Last week we were thrilled to welcome four new joiners;

Ian Groom

Ian has joined Safeguard Engineering as Principal Safety Engineer after serving in the Royal Navy for nearly 38 years as a Marine Engineer.

Ian’s extensive career at sea covered a range of platforms, where he was involved in sea training, engineering policy and capability development.

Most recently, Ian represented the Ministry of Defence in the build and acceptance of HMS Prince of Wales, as part of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance.  Ian’s final role in the military was as the Defence Maritime Regulator, where he was responsible for assuring the safety and compliance of all defence maritime operations on behalf of the Secretary of State.

George Rice

George Rice

George has joined the Safeguard Engineering team in Bristol as a Senior Explosives Safety Engineer.

George retired from the Royal Air Force in September 2022 following 35 years of dedicated service as an Aircraft Weapons Engineer. Throughout his career, George worked on numerous fixed-wing and rotary aircraft, from Buccaneers and Shackleton to Typhoon, Hercules and Chinooks.

George served with several RAF Regiment Squadrons in both the Light Armour (CVRT) and Ground Defence roles. He also spent time working in Explosive Storage Areas, where he was responsible for the assembly, storage and maintenance of all in-service air weapons and ordnance. George was latterly responsible for explosive licensing and compliance at RAF Lossiemouth and Mount Pleasant Airfield, before moving to permanent Explosive Ordnance Disposal Duties. As a trainer at the Defence EOD, Munitions & Search (DEMS) Training Regiment, George ultimately became responsible for all trainer development, coaching and training support.

Following his service in the RAF, George worked operationally for the Ambulance Service in Somerset, where he lives with his partner. In his free time, George enjoys travelling, open water swimming, Stand Up Paddleboarding and keeping as fit as “my auld bomb suit wearing bones will allow!”
