Safeguard Engineering’s fundraising effort is focused around its nominated charities. This November, 12 members of the team signed up to support Blesma and their Remembrance 11k Challenge.  Through their efforts these 12 individuals have raised an amazing £1,333.00 which will be match funded by Safeguard bringing the total funds raised to a fantastic £2,666.00.  This money will go to support the vital work of Blesma who help all serving and ex-service men and women who have lost limbs.  Or who have lost the use of their eyes, helping them to rebuild their lives by providing rehabilitation activities and welfare support.

Blesma 11k Challenge

The 11k Challenge event is focused around the 11th November and Remembrance Sunday.  It encourages people to take part in some kind of physical challenge that is 11k in length. This year members of our team got involved by walking, running, rowing, cycling and even Cornish Gig Rowing!  Surprisingly one member of our team managed to complete 11k or more in all of these disciplines, so the top prize for effort and superb fundraising goes to Keiryn Moffitt.  Keiryn rows with EPIC GIGability, a Cornish Pilot Gig Rowing Club run by military veterans for military veterans.

Cornish Gig Rowing

If you’re not familiar with Cornish Gig Rowing here’s an explanation – the Cornish Pilot Gig is a six-oared rowing boat, clinker-built of Cornish narrow-leaf elm, 32 feet long with a beam of 4 feet 10 inches. It is recognised as one of the first shore-based lifeboats that went to vessels in distress, with recorded rescues going back as far as the late 17th century.

As a business Safeguard supports two charities every year and this is the second year that we have supported the work of Blesma.  It is a charity that is close to the hearts of many of our team who have themselves seen active service in the military before they joined Safeguard.  We are also committed to match funding our colleagues fundraising efforts and set aside a budget of £5,000 every year to meet this.

Commenting on the success of this year’s 11k Challenge Steve Beech, Director said:

We really appreciate the effort the team, and particularly Keiryn, have made in their support of Blesma. I would like to thank them and their friends and family who have kindly donated to this worthwhile cause.  The money we have raised will be donated to Blesma during the ‘Big Give Week’ which means it will be doubled again, a truly fantastic result.”
