Our Expertise

Our team consists of maritime specialists, many of whom are former operators from the UK Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary, or with extensive experience working in the defence industry or for the Ministry of Defence.

 

They have a wide range of skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications relevant to the maritime domain, covering naval architecture, marine engineering, electrical engineering, weapons engineering and safety engineering and environmental science – all with real ‘hands on’ experience working directly with the maritime platforms, systems and equipment which they support.

Policy, Processes and Procedures

Safeguard Engineering has undertaken the following projects in relation to Policy, Processes and Procedures:

  • Developed the Royal Navy Project Safety and Environmental Management Plan, updating it to reflect organisational and procedural changes due to the implementation of the Common Support Model.
  • Created a comprehensive Project-level Asbestos Elimination and Management Policy.

Naval Authority Certification

We have supported MoD projects in the development of submissions seeking Naval Authority Certification for:

  • Propulsion and Manoeuvring
  • Fire
  • Escape, Evacuation and Rescue
  • Navigation

Safety and Environmental Case Reports For Surface Ships

Safeguard Engineering has undertaken the following Safety and Environmental Case Reports For Surface Ships:

  • Update of RFA Class and Platform level Safety and Environmental Cases Reports. This work has involved review and assimilation of changes since the last issue and safety and environmental assessments of changes planned for refit and docking periods.
  • Update and re-write of a variety of equipment Safety and Environmental Case Reports, Hazard Logs, and Environmental Impact and Risk Registers for various items: cranes, lifts, davits, hoists, reverse osmosis plants, oily water separators, submarine mast raising equipment, submarine sensor suites, etc.

Independent Audit

Safeguard Engineering are the current Independent Safety and Environmental Auditor (ISEA) for the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carrier Project. As ISEA we report to the Operating Duty Holder, covering the Duty Holder organisation and Authorities.

 

We leverage our extensive expertise in maritime operations, ship/air interfaces and air traffic management to provide assurance to the Duty Holders and Authorities. Our audits cover a wide scope, from evaluating Duty Holder safety and environmental management processes and procedures to auditing OEM equipment onboard.  These audits have led to significant changes in MoD policy and modifications to equipment, ensuring enhanced safety and compliance.
