How Can We Help?

Policy, Processes and Procedures

Safeguard Engineering has conducted a review to examine the incorporation of safety within the existing design processes and procedures of an MoD equipment provider. The client sought to understand how safety had been integrated and identify areas for improvement. Specifically, the client requested that the following activities be undertaken:

  • Review of current processes, identifying gaps from industry best practices, specifically for safety, enabling the client to understand weaknesses and areas for improvement.
  • Recommendations for addressing those gaps.
  • Mandatory additions to the processes.
  • Project-specific recommendations to the processes.

Naval Authority Certification

We have a well-established safety and environmental engineering presence in the maritime sector, extending into the Submarine domain, where we have a team of ex-submariners and Civil Service staff.

Our strong working relationships have been cultivated through delivering projects to the Senior Leadership Team of the UK MoD Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) and related stakeholders, including DE&S Equipment Support, NCHQ, DNO, and SNR.

Safety and Environmental Case Reports For Submarines

Safeguard Engineering has conducted safety assessments on marine engineering, navigation and weapon systems equipment for both the UK submarine fleet and other EU nations.

We are currently conducting safety and environmental case reports and HAZIDs in collaboration with an industrial leader to replace fuel-propelled torpedoes with battery propulsion.

Independent Audit

Safeguard Engineering has been appointed as an independent safety auditor for a mission-critical power supply system for newly built submarines, where the safety management is being conducted in accordance with IEC 61508 (International Electrotechnical Commission). IEC 61508 is an international standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission, consisting of methods on how to apply, design, deploy and maintain automatic protection systems called safety-related systems.

We are also currently conducting a detailed independent design review and safety & environmental support proposal for a remote control/autonomous vessel.
